Thinking about the future of a work of art is also part of an artist's job.
INITIATIVE IN DEVELOPMENT
Over the past few years, the Casa Taller Delfín Civil Association has faced many of the questions that arise when seeking to preserve an artistic legacy: how to organize a body of work produced over decades? What to conserve? How to document an archive? What happens to copyright? How is a studio preserved? What decisions must be made during one's lifetime and which ones will families have to take on later?
These questions are not exclusive to Victor Delfin's legacy.
A shared challenge
In Peru, there are significant efforts dedicated to the conservation of cultural heritage. However, modern and contemporary artists and their families have more limited resources to anticipate and comprehensively manage the future of works, archives, studios, rights, and other components of an artistic legacy.
Many of these decisions also arise during moments of generational transition, when organizing information, establishing responsibilities, or retrieving documentation can prove to be considerably more difficult.
Starting from a simple idea: the preservation of a legacy can begin during the artist's lifetime.
What is to bequeath?
LEGAR is an initiative in development by the Civil Association Casa Taller Delfín aimed at generating practical tools and capabilities for artists and families who want to begin thinking about, organizing, and preserving an artistic legacy.
The program seeks to combine knowledge from conservation, archiving, cataloging, cultural management, and the legal and succession aspects involved in these processes, adapting them to the Peruvian context.

How it will unfold
01 — Workshop
An initial work experience with artists and individuals responsible for estates will help identify specific questions, needs, and situations within the Peruvian context.
02 — GUIDE
The learnings from the workshop will contribute to the development of a practical guide that brings together guidelines, questions, and tools to begin organizing an artistic legacy.
03 — LEARNING AND COMMUNITY
Building on this first experience, LEGAR will seek to identify ways to continue sharing knowledge and strengthening capacities surrounding the preservation of artistic legacies in Peru.
State
LEGAR is currently in the development stage.
The Association is working on the design of its first pilot experience and on the identification of specialists, knowledge, and tools that can contribute to it.
