An initiative by the Casa Taller Delfín Civil Association to strengthen the capacities of artists, families, and professionals in Peru to plan, organize, document, preserve, and manage artistic legacies.

The starting point
Experience
LEGAR emerges from the work developed by Casa Taller Delfín around the legacy of Víctor Delfín: the inventory and documentation of his work, the organization of his archive, and the construction of structures to ensure its preservation over time.
Peruvian context
In Peru, knowledge and experience regarding the management of contemporary artists' estates are scattered. LEGAR seeks to help build capacities, tools, and knowledge adapted to the country's institutional, professional, and legal conditions.
What is to bequeath?
LEGAR is a permanent program of the Civil Association Casa Taller Delfín aimed at strengthening the capacities of visual artists, families, associations, and cultural professionals to plan and manage artistic legacies.
The program promotes planning throughout the artist's life and articulates research, training, practical tools, peer exchange, and professional capacity building.

01
Research and diagnosis
Interviews with artists, families, and professionals to identify needs, experiences, resources, and gaps regarding the preservation and management of legacies in Peru.
02
Exchange and learning
Dialogue with international experiences and methodologies to relate them to the conditions and needs of the Peruvian context.
03
LEGAR Workshop
A first in-person experience in Lima to work on cases, contrast findings, and put questions, tools, and recommendations to the test.
04
Public report
Publication of the main findings and recommendations of this first stage as an open resource for artists, families, and professionals.
Toward a second stage
The insights from this phase will help guide the future development of practical tools, training resources, and new spaces for exchange. Their content will respond to the needs identified during the research and the LEGAR Workshop.
Learn from other experiences
LEGAR puts the Peruvian context in dialogue with international experiences dedicated to the preservation and management of artistic legacies, among them Creating a Living Legacy (CALL), developed by the Joan Mitchell Foundation, and the Artist Foundations & Estate Leaders List (AFELL) community, coordinated by Soft Network, of which Casa Taller Delfín is a part.
